here goes one of my favorite books ever. i knew it was the favorite book of my best friend but i didn't expect to fall in love with it the same. the blatantly gay love of Basil to Dorian, even in the censored version that i've read, that is described around page 4 of the book instead of being some kind of background detail in the middle of the story drives me insane.
gayness aside, great read; sometimes was a bit hard to get through it with kind of words references and metaphors i could not wrap my head around no matter what i did, but hey. that's what you'd expect from oscar wilde, i guess .

definitely worthy of being called a classic!

it was fascinating to read. i couldnt stop reading it once i got the book.
it's message gets REDUCED to "ooo surveillance bad!!" but the book is about so much more than that and it frustrates me how little people recognize it's actual worth. i mean, i get it, most people haven't fully read it themselves, and the "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU" might be one of biggest culture things that this book has, but still.
ive read it in span of maybe three days or maybe two. crazy. makes me think a lot about society, and what people consider truth.
however, i kinda prefer Animal Farm out of George Orwell's two most famous works. sorry. might be the amount of nausating misogyny in 1984... genuinely, i'm so happy i am not the only person who thinks that this story has issues with sexism, and i don't just mean in "the main protagonist does sexist things" way.

im kinda biased as a ukrainian person. did you know george orwell actually left a note? to ukrainian people? in the ukrainian editions, you will always find a little prelude that no other editions have.
i think its a very effective and perfect story about authoritorian regimes. it's simple and it's straight to the point, and i wish more people read it. i like 1984 but i think this one kind of is more effective narrative wise and hit me stronger in some ways, ironically.
